The Hollywood Chinese name game would be funny if it weren't so ghastly! Savage Innocents does sound grotesque, and Hoberman's comments inexcusable. Grand sleuthing, Katie!!! And congrats on the early raves!

Hi. That Anna must almost certainly be the actress who played the spider woman in an ATV series The Voodoo Factor, shows in late 1959/60.

A coda to the newspaper article about Anna May Wong’s involvement in the European car crash-there was a retraction of the article [nice start, but never undoes the damage]. She and others might have felt she should have received damages against the publisher [she did not].

But at least one head did roll in the newspaper business. I saw reported in several news accounts that the correspondent responsible for the article’s publication was one William Shirer. That is the same name as a famous journalist and author of “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”.

I won’t compound the same name-game error by stating that the famous Shirer lost his job because of the story, without proof certain.

But it’s clear a reporter _did_ get canned for the story. And that reporter’s name is as indicated.
